Go for Broke

I like obscure holidays and celebrations.  Today happens to be ‘ Go for Broke Day. ’  So, how exactly does one celebrate ‘Go for Broke Day’ exactly—by taking a big risk of course.

Are we so afraid to step out of our comfort zones that somewhere, someone decided we need to create a day to say to ourselves, “Today, it’s all or nothing!”  What have we really got to lose that can’t be taken away from us any other day when we don’t take a chance?

Every day in our job searches, our recruiting, our work, we play it safe.  We follow our to-do lists, check off tasks, dot our i’s, cross our t’s, and make sure we color in between the lines.  And, don’t get me wrong, playing it safe is great.  It’s how we get things done by knowing what’s ahead of us and doing what we’re supposed to be doing by taking care of business systematically.

However, there will always be uncertainty in everything we do.  We can not control anything or anyone but ourselves, so why do we hold back?

Do you dream of the adrenaline rush of allowing yourself the freedom to do, create, and achieve without boundaries? What if today, everyone tried going for broke?  What if today we all took a big risk?  What might happen?  Some of us will succeed in our risk taking and some of us will fail.  Isn’t failure just a stepping stone to success teaching us more about how to get to where we want to be?

Is it time to let loose, lay it all on the line, and take a gamble on life, a recruit, your career, or that next product?  There’s no better time than the present, as they say, and given the day, it couldn’t be truer.

We’ll leave it up to you to determine whether or not celebrating ‘Go for Broke Day’ is a risk worth taking. Are you ready to take a chance? If you do decide to celebrate, what big risk would you take or will you take today?
