CHICAGO, IL – August 6, 2013 — RIVS, a Chicago-based early stage company, announced today the successful completion of a $2million Series A round. Companies such as AECOM, Porter Airlines, Careerbuilder’s Personified, and SolarCity use RIVS’ patented digital interviewing software to assess a job candidate’s communication abilities, attitude, and other soft skills significantly faster, leading to higher quality candidates in much less time.

Utilizing a web browser or mobile app, RIVS’ clients wield automated one-way voice and video interviews to screen candidates earlier with better information and can employ RIVS’ live video interview platform to defray the unnecessary travel costs and time of conducting in-person interviews.

“While traditional resumes tell a lot about what someone has done, we believe that digital interviews allow recruiters and hiring managers to understand what a candidate can do, by helping paint a complete picture,” explains David Wieland, CEO and co-founder. “We are very fortunate to have such amazing investors and partners alongside us in this journey to forever change and improve how hiring is done…and have some fun along the way.”

IrishAngels, a Chicago-based Notre Dame-affiliated angel investor group, led the investment round and Michael Stanley, Director and Executive Committee Member, will join RIVS Board of Directors. “RIVS is in a category of its own. Along with a talented management team, they have an exceptional digital interviewing software product that helps companies expedite the hiring process. I am excited to help them take the business to the next level,” commented Michael Stanley.

Adding to its previous $1million seed round, RIVS plans to use the proceeds of this round to accelerate its already rapid growth by augmenting sales, support, and software development personnel.

Bill Meidell, a 10-year HR software veteran understands as well as anyone the need for RIVS in the world of hiring and recruiting. “Hiring the right people is critical,” he states. “When we consider that the cost of a bad hire approaches 30% of their annual salary, we start to realize how important it is to use the right tools and resources to better qualify our candidates as quickly as possible.” Meidell, VP of Sales and Operations, says of using RIVS for his own hires, “I don’t want to imagine ever having to hire without it.”

RIVS is another example of the increasing momentum of early stage Chicago technology companies.
